One of the skills that students work on throughout their 5 days here with New York City Outward Bound is cooking. Each student will be a cook at least once, as we practice rotating roles within each crew. There are usually 2-3 cooks per crew and they hold that role for the entire day. Instructors supervise cooking and give ideas, but allow for students' culinary creativity.
Ms. Thurman's crew visited the farm today after their time at the high challenge course and picked vegetables for dinner. You will see the truly artistic dinner that they have prepared for their crew using peppers, collard greens and herbs from the garden at the Sharpe Reservation.
Mr. Mear's crew is shown cooking on their camp stove and chopping peppers. The rest of their crew went for a hike to give these young men and Erica, their instructor, some peace whilst cooking.
"Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all." -Harriet Van Horne
