BELHS: As the sun sets. Day 2

Beatrice from Mr. Sprinkle's crew says, "Today I learned how to be strong, how to cook and how to make connections with my crew members."

As the sun was setting, Ms. Morehouse's crew sat for a reflective writing period on the dam that holds the waters of Deer Lake. The sun set was stunning in contrast with the autumnal colors. This was a sight not to be missed.

When crews hike into their evening camp on the backpacking trip, the first thing they do is set up their shelter; tarps. I will show a picture of the tarps tomorrow. Mr. Sprinkle's students were really proud of the tarps they built today. The next big event is cooking dinner. There are 18 mouths to feed in Ms. Fletcher's and Mr. Sprinkle's crews. Guided by instructors, Aramy , Maya and Ricardo, 4 student cooks crafted a dinner of macaroni and cheese. It looked delicious and there was none left over, which is always a good sign. Tomorrow, in the main portion of their course, students will begin to cook on their own. It is our hope that this responsibility continues at home.
